Hair care is one of the most essential parts of our day to day routine just like skin care. However, if you have dull, damaged or frizzy hair then you need to take more care. Dry and frizzy hair means that your hair is lacking in moisture and essential nutrients. Though you can visit your spa to take care of the frizz, but have you ever thought that it can be so costly too.

If you are one of those who love to live a frugal life then definitely you will be looking for easy to make natural ways to take control of your hair. In this post just read on to know the major causes of the same; how you can avoid the same as well as hair masks which you can apply.

What Causes Frizzy Hair

If you are one of those thinking as to what causes frizzy hair, then the answer in one word is- Lack of Moisture. If the moisture level is balanced in your hair then you have shiny and soft hair but if it lacks moisture due to some reason the result is frizz. Frizzy hair occurs most probably during summer months when there is too much humidity and scorching heat.

It makes the hair dry and rough. You will be surprised to know that water makes up around 12%-15% of our hair composition. So, if this level decreases you suffer from dull and frizzy hair.

However there are many causes of Frizzy Hair which I am summarizing here:

  • Genetics plays a major role in frizzy hair. If you are born with curly hair then you have to battle with Frizzy hair too.
  • Inadequate diet may also play a role in frizz. Your hair too needs proper diet- vitamins and minerals in adequate quantities to help it grow long and strong. If your intake of Vitamin A, C, E is less it will show on your hair.
  • At times hormonal changes in the body may be due to pregnancy or change in lifestyle or eating habits too may take a toll of your hair. An imbalance in hormones may create a negative impact on your hair and thus may lead to frizz.
  • Lack of water in your body- if you are drinking less water in the summer months, it is going to affect not just your health but your hair too.
  • You are sleeping with your hair accessories on your head. This might rub the hair against each other and may cause frizz.
  • You are not properly conditioning your hair, thus it is no longer smooth or refined as it should have been.
  • You are using wrong type of shampoo which is making your hair more dry or frizzy.
  • The oil you are using for moisturizing your hair is not reaching down the strands.
  • You are using chemicals excessively on your hair- may be bleach or hair dye.

Which Oils to Use for Frizzy Hair

Frizzy hair is simply not good, you know that of course! So, it becomes imperative to use oils which can help in controlling the frizz. It is always good to use natural oils on your hair. Here are a few of these:

Argan oil: It helps in protecting your hair from various external elements like humidity which might harm the hair.

Coconut Oil: Definitely this is one of the best hair oils. Coconut is known for so many benefits and is most commonly used in hot oil treatment. It is lightweight so it easily penetrates into your hair and keeps it hydrated for a longer period of time. Thus, it prevents frizz from occurring.

Sunflower Oil: It helps in taming your frizz if you use it in Hot Oil Treatment. It also hydrates your hair well.

Olive Oil: Yet another popular oil for your hair. It contains Vitamin E which nourishes your hair and makes it soft and shiny too. If used regularly it helps in controlling the frizz and dry hair.

You Need To Know -Curly Hair More Prone to Frizz

It has been seen that those with curly hair are more prone to frizz than others. Thus, it becomes essential that you give proper attention to your hair otherwise it becomes too much rough. How you shampoo your hair also matters a lot:

Always use a good shampoo which has been formulated to enhance your curls. Avoid washing your hair excessively as it might make the hair lose its natural oils and thus make it look more dull and rough. Apart from this, invest money in a good conditioner which helps to replenish moisture into your hair.

Always detangle your curly hair in the shower itself. Once you have shampooed your hair and applied conditioner you should use a wide mouthed comb to detangle hair. This prevents further hair fall after bath. If you detangle hair when it is dry then it is known to make the hair rough all the more.

Avoid using blow dryers. This is known to make the hair dry and thus more frizzy. The best thing to do is to use a towel for drying your hair. Always be soft on your hair and if possible use more of your finger tips to do the same.

Narrow spaced hair brushes are known to create more of damaged hair and unnecessary volume in curly hairs so avoid using them.
